A Little Genealogy Research Help

When searching thru your family tree to find your ancestors, you need documentation to back up what you write. One rule of thumb to remember is a fact is not a fact unless you have something to back it up. So with that being said here are some great places to get started with your research. 1. Your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, or anyone else that can help you fill in the missing pieces. 2. Birth Records - Start with your own birth certificate and work your way up the tree to everyone's that you can find by asking the folks in number one. Then you can research online to find those birth certificates that are missing. A birth certificate has on it parents’ names, mother's maiden names, siblings, ages and addresses. Other forms of birth records are in newspapers, family bibles and also in baptism, christening and confirmation records. 3. Death Records - Death records can be found in newspapers, from funeral homes, cemetery records, old family Bibles, libraries and off the internet. Sometimes they can be written in other types of books or on papers. Be sure to ask everyone in number one before you start looking other places. A Death certificate has a lot of information to offer you for all those blanks that you have in your forms. 4. Marriage Records - Marriage certificates can be found by asking family members if you can make copies of theirs and if they have copies of the deceased loved ones that are the closest to them. You can also find marriage certs in libraries and online. These also have some valuable information on them. The Birth, Death and Marriage certificates are the main documentation that you can find for proof of what you write in your forms and in your family tree information. You can find places and dates in these documents that can lead you to other people, documents and information on your ancestors even some great stories and photos here and again. 5. Don't overlook school records, military records, railroad records, immigration records, naturalization records and citizenship records. All of these things listed here in the post are great places to get more names, dates and places your ancestors lived. Happy Hunting!! Deborah

  1. I want to find time to find at least two documents to support all the info I have and put it online for family. I think it would be a great task, but I need time.
